Sending Us Handwriting for Engraving

There’s something incredibly special about seeing a loved one’s handwriting preserved in metal. Whether it’s a name, a short message, or a signature, these pieces carry meaning that goes far beyond the words themselves.

To make sure we can capture every detail as clearly and accurately as possible, there are a few simple guidelines to follow when sending us your handwriting.

What We Can Work With

We accept all file types, including photos taken on your phone or scanned images.

Handwriting can be:

Recent or legacy

Written on plain paper, cards, or lined paper

From letters, notes, or meaningful keepsakes

We understand that some handwriting can’t be recreated, and we’ll always do our best to work with what you have.

Getting the Best Result

For the clearest engraving, your image should be:

Taken in good lighting (natural daylight is ideal)

Well lit using flash if needed

Sharp and in focus ideally with no other writing visable

Free from shadows or glare

As straight and flat as possible

If possible, handwriting on white paper with black pen gives the cleanest result. However, we absolutely understand that this isn’t always possible, especially with older or sentimental pieces.

The clearer the image you send, the better the final engraving will look.

What We Do With Your Handwriting

Once received, we carefully:

Crop your image

Clean and digitalise the handwriting

Prepare it for engraving

Combining and Adjusting Layout

We can work flexibly with your handwriting where needed.

For example, if your sample reads:

“Love from”
“Granny”

We can combine this into a single flowing line so it fits naturally around a ring, rather than appearing stacked.

We can also:

Remove unnecessary gaps

Reposition words for better flow

Adjust layout to suit the piece

All while keeping the handwriting true to its original form.

Length Guidelines

To ensure the engraving remains clear and readable, we recommend:

Up to 3–4 words, or

2–3 words with a date

Shorter messages tend to give the best results, especially on rings.

A Final Note

We know how much these pieces can mean. Whether it’s a signature from someone you love, a note from years ago, or something newly written, we treat every engraving with care and respect.

If you’re unsure whether your handwriting will work, you’re always welcome to send it over and we’ll take a look for you.
