What Is A Ring Profile?

What Is A Ring Profile?

A ring profile refers to the shape and contour of the ring, both on the outside and the inside of the band. Different profiles affect how a ring looks, feels and wears over time.

Court Profile Rings

Court profile rings feature a rounded outer surface combined, similar to the letter D, with a comfort-fit inner shape. This is one of the most popular styles for wedding rings due to its softer feel and traditional appearance.

Flat Profile Rings

Flat profile rings have a modern, clean appearance with a flatter outer surface and more defined edges. They often feel slightly more substantial on the hand compared to court profiles.

Bevel Profile Rings

Bevel profile rings combine a flat outer surface with softened angled edges. This creates a more contemporary look while maintaining comfortable wearability.

Faceted Rings

Faceted rings use multiple angled surfaces to create a more distinctive appearance. The changing surfaces catch light differently and give the ring a more architectural feel.

Comfort Fit Interiors

At True North Forge, the inside of our rings is finished with a comfort-fit profile and polished by hand to create a smoother feel against the skin during everyday wear.

A comfort-fit interior uses softened inner edges rather than a completely flat inside surface, helping wider rings feel more natural and comfortable on the hand over long periods of wear.

On our Damascus Steel rings, the interior is normally left with the visible Damascus pattern continuing through the inside of the band. If engraving is requested, the inside is instead polished to allow for a clearer and more refined engraving finish.

Which Ring Profile Is Most Comfortable?

Comfort often comes down to personal preference, ring width and what you are used to wearing. Court profiles are generally considered the softest and most traditional fit, while flat and bevel profiles provide a more modern appearance with a firmer feel on the hand.
