Black Zirconium Court Shape Ring

The Black Zirconium Court Shape Ring combines the softly rounded profile of a traditional wedding band with the deep black appearance of heat-treated Zirconium.

Unlike a painted or plated black ring, the dark surface is created by carefully heating the Zirconium itself, transforming its outer layer into hard black zirconium oxide. The traditional curves of the Court profile soften the overall appearance, making this an excellent choice for those who want a black wedding ring without the sharper lines of a Flat design.

Handmade to order by Graeme in our Scottish workshop, each ring is individually crafted to your chosen size, width and finish.

What is Black Zirconium?

Zirconium begins as a naturally silver-grey metal.

During the making process, the ring is carefully heat treated. This causes the outer surface of the Zirconium to react with oxygen and form a hard, black zirconium oxide layer.

Unlike paint or plating, this black layer is created from the Zirconium itself rather than applied as a separate coating.

The result is the distinctive deep black surface that makes Black Zirconium such an unusual alternative to traditional silver-coloured wedding ring metals.

Classic Court Profile

The Court is a traditional wedding ring shape, with gentle curves across both the outside and inside of the band.

Its rounded outer surface gives Black Zirconium a softer appearance than our Flat profile and allows light to move gradually across the curved surface.

The curved interior creates a smooth, comfortable fit, making the Court particularly well suited to a ring intended to be worn every day.

Your Choice of Finish

Choose between polished or satin finish, each creating a distinctly different appearance across the curved Court profile.

A polished finish creates a smooth, highly reflective black surface. The rounded profile catches changing reflections as the ring moves, emphasising the depth and richness of the Black Zirconium.

A satin finish diffuses the light rather than reflecting it strongly, creating a softer, more muted black appearance with a smooth matte sheen.

Both finishes are created from the same heat-treated Black Zirconium; the difference is in the final surface finish.

Built for Everyday Wear

Black Zirconium is lightweight, corrosion resistant and well suited to everyday jewellery.

The black zirconium oxide surface is extremely hard and, because it isn't a plated finish, it will not simply peel or flake away.

However, no jewellery material is impervious to wear. Black Zirconium can develop surface marks over time, and sufficiently deep scratches or impacts can expose the natural grey Zirconium beneath the black surface.

Removing your ring for heavy lifting, abrasive work or high-impact activities will help preserve its appearance.

Handmade to Order

Every Black Zirconium Court Shape Ring is handmade by Graeme in our Scottish workshop and crafted specifically to your chosen size, width and finish.

Available in sizes up to Z+6, including half sizes.

Engraving can be added to the inside of the band if selected.

Care

Clean your Black Zirconium ring using mild soap and warm water before drying thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Avoid abrasive cleaning products or harsh chemicals and remove the ring before activities likely to cause heavy impact or abrasion.

Ordering & Making Your Ring

What is the best alternative metal for a wedding ring?

There is no single best metal. It depends on your preference for weight, finish and appearance. Titanium is extremely lightweight, Damascus Steel features unique layered patterns, Black Zirconium offers a deep black finish and Stainless Steel provides strength with a classic silver tone. You can compare all options in our Alternative Metal Wedding Rings Guide.

What is the thickness of the ring?

Our rings are crafted with an approximate thickness of 2 mm. This provides a balanced feel that is substantial enough for durability while remaining comfortable for everyday wear. Each ring is shaped and finished by hand, so there may be very slight variations, but all are designed to maintain a consistent and comfortable profile.

How can I check my size before ordering?

There are several ways to confirm your size: you can be measured at any jeweller and ask for the internal diameter, order a ring gauge yourself and let us know the result, use a ring that already fits and send it to us, or request one of our free ring sizers at checkout.
We’ll confirm any sizing details with you before we begin

Engraving is always free. We can add names, dates, or even your own handwriting inside your wedding ring. To know more about handwriting engraving, take a look at this blog. . If the option is showing on the product listing, it is engravable.

Who actually makes my ring?

Every ring is made to order in our Scottish workshop by hand by Graeme, or G as he is known. We don’t outsource production or hold bulk stock. Your ring is crafted individually once your order is placed, then finished, checked and prepared for dispatch.
